The Hope Container Foundation Inc. ("us", "we", or "our") is a non-profit organization, registered and accredited under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) (DLN: 26053518001501). This status indicates that we are exempt from federal income tax, and contributions made to us by donors are tax-deductible under IRC Section 170. Further, we are qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522.
Our non-profit organization is classified as a public charity under the IRC. We are required to file an annual information return (Form 990 or Form 990-EZ) or electronic notice (Form 990-N, the "Postcard"). Should we fail to file a required return or notice for three consecutive years, our exempt status could be automatically revoked.
Donations and Tax Benefits
When you make a donation to The Hope Container Foundation Inc., your donation can have significant tax benefits. It's important to understand that tax laws are complex, and the following information is only a summary:
1. Individual Donations: Individuals who itemize deductions on their federal income tax can deduct donations made to us under IRC Section 170. The deduction is usually limited to a percentage of the contributor's adjusted gross income (typically 60% for cash contributions). You should consult with a tax advisor to understand how this applies to your circumstances.
2. Corporate Donations: Corporations can also deduct charitable donations to us on their taxes. The deductions are limited to a percentage (typically up to 10%) of the corporation's taxable income.
3. Estate and Gift Donations: Donations made through bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts are deductible from the donor's estate, reducing potential estate tax liability. We are qualified to receive such tax-deductible donations under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the IRC.
4. Non-Cash Donations: If you donate property (other than cash), you may be able to deduct the fair market value of the item. The IRS has specific rules for non-cash donations, so consult a tax advisor to understand the implications.
Please note that this summary is provided for general informational purposes only. We strongly encourage you to consult with a professional tax advisor to understand how these rules apply to you.
